RACE BRIEFING NOTES REDHUB SUPER SERIES.

REMEMBER you swim 300m, run into  transition, get your bike, cycle two laps of 2000 meters each , back into transition. Put your running shoes on , run 1600m and back into transition. Make sure you have a swim cap (and goggles!) run out of transition to the water and start again. You do this three times. As you finish your third run You will see a sign which says finish follow it and finish your Super Series race. You are timed on the way to check that you complete each discipline three times and cycle two laps each time you cycle. Be organised in the transition area since you go through transition 8 times. Transition flow and routes are well marked , but read below to make this simple. BRIGHT COLOUR SWIM CAPS ARE COMPULSORY. Not black or navy etc.

  1. Be sure to note the  time that your age group race starts. Registration for your age group is (you can be earlier if you wish). Registration opens at 5:30 .Check transition loading time slot for your age group and race start time. See RACE DAY SCHEDULE .(Your race briefing is 10 minutes before your race starts. BUT all race briefing information is in this communication. Also time slot to remove your bike from transition since the transition areas are used multiple times for multiple races.
  2. Routes are marked, but since this is the first time that this format is done in South Africa , be sure that you understand the race.
  3. YOU NEED TO be sure that you have your helmet on and clipped in when leaving the transition area to cycle. (Shoes are obvious). After each of the first two swims, make sure you place your swim cap and goggles  so that you remember it going out for swim two and three. (Or tuck it into your race suit on the cycle and run). Same with running shoes after run one and run two. Place it next to your bike. Good idea to spread a towel open next to your bike for equipment.NO WETSUITS in this format of racing. IF YOU FORGET AN ITEM YOU HAVE TO GO ROUND TRANSITION AND THROUGH AGAIN TO COLLECT IT.
  4. An exciting floating bridge over the water during the run (40 meters) has been added at 750m into the run. You Keep Left on the run . Keep left at 700m signage there . To turn around point and back over the floating bridge.
  5. The Cycling route is anti clockwise , PLEASE KEEP RIGHT DURING CYCLING AND PASS LEFT.  We do have signage stressing the point on route. The centre of the road is therefore used for passing slower riders. If a slow rider is in front of you , please communicate by shouting “coming left”. CYCLE IN A STRAIGHT LINE CLOSE TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE ROAD( Right) , THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IS USED FOR PASSING. We stress this since making a mistake on the bike is where problems could start. MTB bikes are allowed BUT NO TT  BIKES.
  6. Cycling is two laps each time. Watch the signage marked Lap after first lap in the cycling just before the transition area to turn sharp left to start your second cycling lap. After each second lap of cycling you keep straight to transition and watch for the dismount sign. Into transition after cycle one and two , place a helmet in a way that you remember it again when going out on your next cycling leg..
  7. At the end of run one and run two look for the sign , clearly marked Transition to run through transition. Place your shoes. Be sure to have your swimming cap and goggles before running out of transition to the swim again. At the end of run three, look for the finish sign . You follow this only once to finish at the end of run three.
  8. Each of the age group races are timed by age category . You get a position in your age category.
  9. A final race is scheduled for all the top performers in each age category , this is an additional  race on the day for qualifiers. This FINAL race determines the overall position of competitors on the day regardless of age group. See RACE DAY SCHEDULE. Please support  the FINAL and get your overall placing if your position in your age group race qualifies you to take part. If you are racing in the final , keep your chip till after the final, else hand your chip back at the finish before collecting your bike. Qualifying for the FINAL is as follows:  Alll male finishers in the top 7 positions of their age group and all Ladies who finish in the top 4 of their age group. Race results at the finish area.
  10. Please LOOK AT THE RACE DAY SCHEDULE for times detail for check in time, etc. REGISTRATION IS ON RACE DAY ONLY AT THE VENUE.
  11. CHIPS ARE R 500 if you do not hand them back before you leave (You will be charged). Please , please assist in this. WHEN  YOU ARE DONE HAND CHIP BACK AT THE FINISH.
  12. At all times , do not walk on the cycle route . When crossing while a race is on , be sure to look left and right and not walk on the cycle route in front of someone racing.
